Benteke has officially gone. I’m sad.

It was obvious it was going to happen and I’ve been expecting it, but quite simply, this one hurts.

I know, I know, we’ll be able to put the money to good use and we were too one-dimensional because we always played to/always relied too much on the one player. I’ve heard what you’re saying.

But I don’t agree.
First, unless Lerner really surprises me, we won’t spend all the money we ought to have available.
We’ve had around £40 million coming in, give or take a few million because of sell on clauses etc and this means even after the players we’ve signed, we should still have at least another £30 million or so to spend.
Do I see that happening?
No I don’t, although in fairness, we’ve been linked to Diego Rolan at 18 million euros, so it may be a case that the spending will indeed continue.

And then, more importantly, there’s the fact that I rate Benteke as highly as any striker I’ve seen down the Villa in a long time. He has the lot for me and to see that only around 30% of his goals were scored with his head has surprised even me.

I know we couldn’t do anything about the release clause, but it strikes me it was way too cheap.
And given that some ignorant Liverpool fans only had him pegged as some Andy Carroll type, this deal has really wound me up. To be fair though, it does seem that after proper research, they have had their eyes opened somewhat.

I really think Benteke should have held out another season for a Champions League club, but fair play to Brendan Rodgers, he knows what he’s buying.
If Liverpool don’t achieve CL this season, I don’t believe it’ll be Benteke’s fault, as I think he’ll get twenty goals easily, even if they don’t specifically play to suit him.

So it’s with a heavy heart, that I wish Benteke well at Liverpool.

From what I’ve seen of Sherwood’s signings up to now, I’m happy in thinking that we’ll be a better side this season, but we’ll still miss a player of Benteke’s calibre, in my opinion.

Oh well, onwards and upwards eh?

I’ll never forget the You Tube clip of Benteke’s penalty where that proper Brummie was screaming “Dow fuk it up Bentek-Ay”!!! Priceless…
Get several more faeces in quick, sharp, get them up to speed pre-season and I might even take my boys to the hallowed ground for the first time. I stated I wouldn’t line Lerner’s pockets, but if Fox and Tim are allowed to reinvest the money from sales, plus another £15m, which is a very modest net spend for a Premier League team, it could be exciting next season! 🙂
We still need to jettison the idiot Dad’s army L*****t bought last year – Cole, Richardson, Senderos and put their wages to better use…

I wish him well, was fantastic for us.

Ironically, I would have preferred him to have had his ‘dream move’ to Arsenal, or even Chelsea. They are out of our league, and I would have happily watched him wanting him to do well at either of those.

I don’t understand the Liverpool move, did he not see their last match of the season ?

Liverpool will be fifth to eighth this season, no doubt about that in my mind.

With a release clause being activated, I don’t imagine that any sell-on clause will be inserted in the move. I don’t see him growing in value up there, don’t think that they’ll play to his strengths.

I personally don’t think benteke will be content with 5th – 8th, I’m sure he’s giving the scousers a chance this season to qualify for a CL spot if that’s not achieved I’m sure he’ll be punching even higher for one of the big boy’s.time will tell

Yep I can see that too. I said earlier I don’t think he’s that happy joining Liverpool and was hoping Utd or London clubs would sign him

Glad that’s over with, thanks Liverpool for pulling your thumb out your arse and getting it done. Wonder if Rodgers can teach him the off side rule and having tantrums like my 2 year old. Also shows everything about benteke, no thanking previous club or more importantly fans, he will do the same to Liverpool!!! Now it’s time to go out, get Charlie Austin for 15 mil, another centre midfielder with quality for around 15 mil, bring in cambiasso for experience for the young squad and I think the squad will then be more dynamic, better attitude and I’m looking forward to the new start, UP THE VILLA!!!!

Gents, you’re getting worked-up about something that is pretty normal in transfers.

If you look at most clubs’ balance sheets you’ll see some large figures in ‘Debtors’, or ‘Accounts Receivable’. Included in there will often be amounts still owed by other clubs who’ve bought players – very few football finance deals are ‘cash’; it’s always been that way, and one reason why some clubs get landed with transfer embargoes – they’ve bought players for years on credit and then found that they can’t settle some of the later installments due on players that they’ve even sold-on since.

In fact ‘cash’ deals are the exception rather than the rule; Citeh or Chelski might do the odd deal that way, but most clubs don’t.

There was some talk a few years ago by either/both UEFA and the FA about trying to restrict the number and amounts of ‘credit’ deals – it would have reduced transfer fees quite a bit – but the idea never got very far because even the biggest clubs work on credit.

but 5 years seems a bit excessive . i bet the bindippers got most of the sterling money upfront (haven’t read anywhere that there getting paid over 5 year) do villa get the interest on the other £16m over them 5 years bet we don’t . all in all i think we was humped.

there looking for silly money for bolasie what about Mohamed Salah from chelsea he is meant to be leaving and would be worth a punt at the right price. would rather pay around £10m for him than what spurs are after for Andros Townsend

Benteke has gone and I’m over it. Can’t wait to see who we get in as replacement/additions. The signings so far are pretty exciting so we could be in decent shape when the dust settles.
Bolasie looks very unlikely to me, but there is plenty of talent out there.

As for Lerner and funding, I think he has learnt his lesson, and I think he is not so stupid that he can’t see how important goal scorers are. We know Benteke’s goals kept us up, same as Bent’s goals did a few seasons ago. Lerner can see that too. He can also see the value in signing players at a decent sum with good potential to become worth even more.

What annoys me is the fact we had 2 quality players in Delph and Benteke that we could and should have built a team around. Lerner’s lack of decent investment will prove costly again. We are going around in fucking circles. How many times since MON left have we had to rebuild. Who can blame players for wanting to leave a club with no obvious ambition or desire to improve? Sherwood is not the type to become another ‘Lerner puppet’. If Randy pockets the Benteke money then we really are in the brown stuff IMO.

BUM BUM…..spot on. I would also expect him to walk. Its all a bit pointless if we dont show ambition. TS doesnt come across as a weak, sit on the fence guy. He is refreshing after the last 2 managers who were very uninspiring. As I keep saying, only Lerner can fuck up this opportunity to move forward.

Nobody would blame him. Similar to MON for me despite some shite buys. If the writing is on the wall, why should anyone put up with it if they don’t have to. I don’t.

Bordeaux boss has come out and said no contact has been made at all between villa and Bordeaux for Diego Rolan. He said Newcastle had shown interest but no formal offer has been made by them either.

Don’t think we can blame him for wanting to better himself, he could spend a career waiting for us to improve lol !

Just a shame he went to Liverpool, is he as good as he thinks he is ?

Without doubt Benteke deserves his chance at playing for a club that should be challenging for the top 4. Wether Liverpool is that club remains to be seen. I hope he succeeds because he was fantastic for us and undoubtedly has the talent to play at champions league level.
