Aston Villa VS Man City preview

Football is once again upon us, and this week it is in our yard. Will we prevail?

P W D L GD PTS
3 Man City 6 2 2 1 +5 11
6 Aston Villa 6 3 1 2 -3 10

Let’s start this by saying that we have won the same amount of games as Man City, but they have lost one less leaving us trailing by a point.

Man City have not got off to the season the way they had hoped however, they have only lost one game so far this season and I would be biased if I thought this game was going to be their second but.. we do have a not so secret weapon returning and this gives us an edge.
Christian Benteke is set to play against Man City today giving the lions the roar they have been missing all season. Since joining us in 2012, he has become a fan favourite scoring 29 league goals before suffering a long term injury putting him out of the world cup and Villa fans into hysteria and now the beast returns.

Man City have conceded 7 goals, the same as Villa, the only difference being is that they scored more the other end and have the capabilities to do that game in, game out. Man City have the ability to not rely on an individual to score all their goals, this makes them a dangerous threat and is going to require a good team effort to shut their play down and squash any signs of attack. It is doable feat and Stoke have proved this already with their 1 goal victory, can we follow this up? The answer is – IT DEPENDS ON THE STRATERGY.

Will we sit back or attack?

I see Richardson being dropped for Benteke who will take the forward roll with gabby on the left and Wiemann on the right. This puts Cleverly on the right, Delph on the left and Westwood in the centre. If it so happens to be like this then I see us bringing the game to Man City and life to the park. Our team works best with Benteke in it as he is the natural goal scorer and with his return, it will give the team a chance to prove that it does have an attacking side to it, not just counter attacking.

I’m seeing a draw written all over this game, and I think it will be a mighty entertaining one. For those who are going, i’ll see you at the game!

Yeah but usually someone’s trying to shut them down while sitting back. No one even bothered stepping up on him to block him. 4 players stood there watching him moving up and just shooting.

Agree toure just ran at defence Sendeross should have come a yard fwd and midfield left gap for him to run through. We were far too deep yet again this has been our problem for years. The empty seats say it all the football we play at VP is worse than even under mcleish. If we played good attacking football today and lost 3.0 I wouldn’t have a problem. But we play anti football which us boring and still lose

No midfield cover at all. All just watching as the balls passed to Aguero and goal.

Sylvia just behind midfield all the time noone picked him up. That’s 3 games 8 conceded and none scored and 1 effort on target. Says it all. Yes they were tough games but we didn’t even go for it today.

Thought Westwood was a passenger for a majority and Weimann was terrible. Defence did ok up until the goal, except when Cissokho attacks!!

There were small periods in the game when we looked decent, didn’t last long tho.

Just glad we kept it at 2 and happy to see Benteke come out unscathed…..Roll on a few easier games.

Disagree on Westwood but Weimann did a good impression of a headless chicken 🙂

Westwood tried to keep things moving and link play but no movement in front of him. He did well in flashes but agree not his best game for us

In the words of the great Bill Shankly ‘Villa were lucky to score none’. This could be the quickest rush to the bottom in EPL history – we were truly dire. Couldn’t keep the ball or pass it accurately – no movement – awful. One player I thought did well today and often maligned was Baker; gave it everything he could.

Baker was excellent, Sendross struggled esp 2nd half. Delph did well and so did Guzan. Cleverly worst player on park IMO.

Cleverly – 3 games, 3 defeats! Maybe the Manure fans know something we don’t. Not the worst player though. I thought Cissoko was poor but Weimann was the worst player by a country mile!

Cleverly needs to much time on the ball gets caught in possesion, gives ball away a lot. Another headless chicken like kae. Utd arnt stupid they wouldn’t sell him if he was good.

True comment on Baker but I think to say the other is harsh, true, we were poor but we’ve come off the back of 3 other difficult games, all top 4 contenders and came away with 3 points…..everyone here said they’d have taken that back then…..whats changed??.

I think a draw v Everton will be a decent result and hopefully kick on from there.

Shoukd get a point at Everton esp if Benteke and vlaar are bk. was disappointed in Sendeross today and think baker and vlaar might just be the ticket.

been better to give sanchez few mins try get him up to speed bacuna headless chicken, mid 3 of delph westwood clevery no pace strength height goals what do you need to be good midfielder and we are going to pay about 8 million for one another going to give him big contract. do villa players not realise if you pick up players good chance they wont score but if stand looking at them good chance they will BASICS

Agree with your point about the Bacuna sub – that didn’t make sense. Either leave N’Zog on or put on Sanchez to sit in front of the back 4. With both N’Zog and Richardson off we lost any outlet and there was a big gap between Benteke and the midfielders which meant a lot of hopeful hoofing with the expected outcome (nothing!!)

We have no footballing brains in the middle of the team, we lack a player that can and do things like the likes of Scoles, Lampard, Barry, we play negative football, more like parks of a Sunday. If this is what Keane bringing into Villa god help us, I can see empty seats all over the ground. I know its been tough with money clubs but you have to see we have no idea what to do. God help us.
