I gotta wonder what your definition of a Mercenary is.

Berbatov’s played for 5 clubs, And 4 of them were some of the biggest in their respective Countries and 1 in Fulham.

Adebayor has also had 5 clubs he’s played for, 6 if you count Madrid on loan. Like what’s the definition of a Mercenary?

Basically a player well past his sell by date who only wants a last pay off without doing much. Even Wilkins said Adebeyor is a good player when he wants to be! That sums him up perfectly. If RW knows that then why buy him

Big plus from tonight was Kozak. Thought he had a cracking game.

We played some nice stuff but letting them get back into the game smacked a bit of the old Villa.

However it is just a friendly and I’m sure that Tim will have learnt something.

Might get more from the next game when you’d think that Tim will play his best eleven before the Bournemouth game.

Still optimistic, still looking forward to the new season.

I don’t know what you like in your football players but this fella on his day is about as good at it gets.
Ok he’s 34 and aint going to run his bollox for 90 minutes (but he never did in his pomp) but it’s moments of magic that wins games and get people through the turnstiles and he certainly is more than capable of that.
After the last 5 seasons of total f**king dross down at VP Berbatov would be breath of fresh air imo.

Think you’re both right [for once!] – Berbatov is a class player, and if all Villa do is pay his wages for a season then there’ll be at least a few games where he can create goals out of nowhere.

That’s your opinion and you are entitled to it mine differs, not saying I’m right and your wrong but I would shell out the £35 for seat simply to see him grace VP. Now can you say that of any right back in football?
Lets not forget football is supposed to be ‘entertainment’, I don’t buy into happy to win every game 1-0 philosophy, as the late great Danny Blanchflower said
“The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It’s nothing of the kind. The game is about glory. It is about doing things in style, with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom.”

I have no idea what wages he might accept to play another season in the EPL, and I suspect that unless you’re his agent, neither do you.

But like every other club in this division Villa have paid tens of £thousands a week to a variety of players who were simply useless for season after season, so since we’re talking ‘Monopoly money’ anyway, I’d be delighted if they threw some at one of the real class acts in modern football for a season – just to see what might happen.

Could we attract Chicharito though, not that he’s better than Adebayor is? And does he fit Sherwood? Not just about signing random players anymore. Adebayor’s far more technically gifted than Hernandez is, not as quick but I don’t think Chicharito would add as much as Adebayor can.

The Customer’s Game. There are several conventions in pre-season friendlies and in the swordplay between managers and agents.

Higher division teams playing away in friendlies are supposed to let the home side equalise and settle for a draw. Sometimes the visitors sub their better players if they are leading with 15 minutes to go. There is another convention about letting the Beneficiary score the opening goal. There is a story of Villa playing for Joe Bloggs benefit game on the South coast, and Psycho Evans after 10 minutes could not see who the opponents were feeding their through balls to – so he asked an opponent which one was Joe Bloggs. He’s dead was the reply, this is a benefit for his widow!

Clubs get hustled by Agents, claiming their man is wanted by other clubs. But Managers play this game as well – enquiring for several players more than they need in certain positions to give the agent of their target the impression the club would happily buy someone else, if the target’s price is too dear. Villa wont take all the players on their shopping list today. Having said that: the old magicians Adebayor and Berbatov if we can sign them for nowt but wages would probably produce the odd cameos worth the entrance fee alone.

I can see it now A forward line of Gabriel Agnbonlahor, Dimitar Berbatov, and Emmanuel Adebayor. And MOTD give the commentary to John Motson – ooooh….priceless!
